The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced the reopening of opportunities for individuals to observe, monitor, and represent candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
This decision follows the rescheduling of the parliamentary elections, previously slated for the 17th of this month, to the 21st of next month. The rescheduling came as a result of an amendment to the General Elections Act.
According to the ECM, interested parties can avail themselves of this opportunity starting from today until 13:30 pm on the 21st of this month. Application forms for election observation, monitoring, and representation are accessible on the ECM website.
Forms can be submitted via email, or in person at the commission’s counters located at Darbarge. The opening hours of these counters have been duly published in the gazette.
Additionally, the ECM has stated that candidates seeking to change their representatives will also be accommodated. Currently, a total of 371 candidates are vying for positions across 93 constituencies.
This move by the Election Commission aims to facilitate a transparent and inclusive electoral process, ensuring adequate representation and oversight throughout the parliamentary elections.
