Minister of Health Abdulla Khaleel has disclosed that aid provided by the Kuwaiti fund has been retracted due to the failure of the previous government to adhere to procurement rules and regulations set by the fund.
This revelation came to light during the minister’s session with members of parliament.
Expressing reservations, Minister Abdullah Khaleel underscored the importance of adhering to the procurement guidelines laid down by international funding agencies. He clarified that the cessation of aid from the Kuwaiti fund was a consequence of the previous government’s non-compliance with these regulations.
The minister further explained that the Kuwaiti fund had extended assistance for the establishment of hospitals across the country.
However, following the withdrawal of support, the current government is actively seeking alternative financial avenues to sustain these ongoing projects. Additionally, efforts are underway to re-engage with the Kuwaiti fund to reinstate the funding.
