Gov’t Announces Six Locations in Malé Area Designated for Eid Prayer

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed plans for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr this year, announcing that six large congregational prayers will be held in various locations across the Malé area.

According to the Ministry’s statement, mass Eid prayers are slated to occur in congregations across Malé, Villimalé, and Hulhumalé, with six designated locations identified within the Greater Malé Region.

The locations for the prayers are as follows:

  • Maafannu Stadium in Malé.
  • Football ground in Villimalé.
  • Synthetic track of Hulhumalé Phase 1.
  • Cricket Stadium in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
  • Islamic Centre and its vicinity.
  • King Salman Mosque and its surroundings.

Additionally, the Ministry has outlined arrangements for catering services and sound system management during the Eid prayers, with plans to enlist individuals capable of cooking and preparing refreshments for organizers, as well as appointing someone to oversee sound systems at the designated locations.

In line with health and safety recommendations, the Ministry has advised worshippers to perform ablution (Wudu) at home, bring personal water bottles, and carry individual prayer mats.

Furthermore, discussions are ongoing at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs regarding the potential advancement of the Eid prayer timing to 7 a.m.

Eid-ul-Fitr, as per the calendar, is scheduled for April 10 this year.
