Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, announced that the Maldivian government is currently in discussions with the Turkish government to establish a new trade agreement.

Speaking on X, Saeed highlighted the improving trade relations between the two nations following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Turkey earlier.

Saeed revealed that both governments are actively working towards finalizing a preferential trade agreement. This agreement aims to facilitate the importation of specific goods from Turkey to the Maldives under special tariff conditions.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, senior officials from both countries convened on Wednesday afternoon to engage in negotiations regarding the proposed agreement.

In addition to trade discussions, it has been noted that Turkey has extended military assistance to the Maldives. Furthermore, there are expectations that Turkey will emerge as a significant importer of food items to the Maldives in the future.
