China Tianying Inc. (CNTY) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Maldives government aimed at bolstering renewable energy efforts.

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy disclosed on Thursday that the agreement entails CNTY’s support in establishing a renewable energy source derived from waste materials.

Representing the Maldives government, Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim, formally sealed the agreement, while De Biao Cao, President of CNTY, signed on behalf of the company.

Over the course of the two-year contract, CNTY will contribute its industrial and technological proficiency to aid the Maldives’ socio-economic development endeavours.

As part of the arrangement, CNTY will assist in enhancing the capabilities of various entities tasked with environmental and sustainable development mandates through a phased Waste-to-Energy project.

The scope of collaboration encompasses environmental preservation, utility service enhancement, and mitigation of climate change impacts. Minister Thoriq underscored the significance of this initiative in the Maldives’ pursuit of national advancement and environmental safeguarding.

Highlighting CNTY’s ongoing involvement in similar projects across the Maldives, the company’s President affirmed that the agreement would further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and China.

In addition to the project-specific support, the ministry outlined plans for executing human resource development initiatives, workshops, seminars, and internship opportunities under the agreement.
