STELCO Links Transformer Vandalism to Hulhumale’ Power Disruption

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has attributed the power outage in Hulhumale’ to acts of vandalism targeting transformers.
According to Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of STELCO, the company has reported incidents of breaking and entering into their substations, resulting in the tampering and theft of transformer components.
Although specific details regarding the vandalized transformers were not disclosed, Fahmy confirmed that the recent power disruption in certain areas of Hulhumale’ was a direct consequence of the theft of transformer parts. He expressed concerns over the safety risks posed by such actions and highlighted the impact on the company’s ability to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
Fahmy called upon relevant authorities to investigate these incidents and apprehend the perpetrators, urging decisive action against both the vandals and individuals involved in the illegal trade of stolen transformer parts.
Reports indicate that several districts in Hulhumale’, particularly in Phase 2, experienced power outages during the early hours of Friday, with service gradually being restored to affected households within approximately an hour.
