Male’ City Council has reported a substantial clean-up operation, clearing 31 tons of waste from Male’ city yesterday alone, with 18 individuals fined for littering offenses.

The breakdown of the waste clearance operations yesterday reveals the scale of the effort: 20 pickup trucks, each with a carry capacity of 350 kilograms, were deployed alongside 6 pickups capable of handling 1.5 tons, 3 pickups dealing with 3 tons, and another 3 pickups managing 2 tons.

In addition to the cleanup initiative, the City Council has taken action against those responsible for littering or engaging in illegal commercial activities by stocking goods on roads. By yesterday, 18 individuals had been fined for such offences.

The surge in cases of public littering coincides with the observance of Ramadan, a period during which households typically dispose of a higher volume of waste.

To ensure adherence to regulations and sustain cleanliness in Male’, the City Council has been utilizing CCTV networks to identify litterers, leading to fines being imposed on offenders. The prescribed fine for littering in public venues stands at MVR 500.

The efforts of the Male’ City Council reflect its commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for residents and visitors alike, with measures in place to address issues of littering and promote civic responsibility.
