2-Hour Driving Ban on Fitr-Eid Announced
The Male’ City Council has announced vehicle restrictions from 4:00pm – 06:00pm on the day of Fitr-Eid.
The decision was reached this morning during the 140th official general meeting of the 4th term of the Male’ City Council.
According to the decision, driving is prohibited between 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with exceptions only for those with special permits.
The proposal to extend pedestrian hours on Eid to stretch from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, put forward by Mahchangoalhi South Constituency Councilor Ahmed Zameer, was not approved during the council session.
A similar vehicle ban was enforced last year.
In tandem with these restrictions, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced arrangements for Eid prayers, opting for large congregations at designated venues. The Maafannu Stadium area, Villimale Football Stadium, Hulhumale’ First Fihavehi Synthetic Track area, and Hulhumale’ Second Phase Cricket Stadium area have been earmarked for Fitr-Eid prayers.
Furthermore, the Ministry has set the start time for Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha prayers at 7:00 am, an earlier commencement compared to previous years. This decision follows extensive consultations with the Supreme Council of Islamic Fatwa, religious scholars, and the Astronomical Calculations Committee under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
