President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled proposals to introduce 6000 beds as part of the Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan, with the aim of rejuvenating the tourism sector in Addu City.
This extensive initiative, devised as a component of the government’s 100-day plan, delineates the goals for tourism enhancement in Addu City over the forthcoming five years. Muizzu underscored the ongoing endeavours to enhance Addu Bridge and kickstart the Gan International Airport (GIA) project, alongside emphasising the government’s pledge to inaugurate seaplane hubs within the region.
Speaking at a campaign event for a ruling coalition candidate vying for the Addu-Hulhudhoo constituency, Muizzu reiterated his commitment to fulfilling assurances extended to Addu City residents, affirming the initiation of the GIA project within the current year.
The Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan aims to generate approximately 10,000 employment opportunities through the introduction of 6000 beds in the locale. The plan encompasses various specific measures, including the establishment of a cultural village, the creation of a wellness zone, and the demarcation of protected areas within Addu City. Furthermore, it proposes the establishment of a hospitality school aimed at fostering skill development and education within the tourism sector.
A notable landmark outlined in the plan is the forthcoming reopening of the Shangri-La Villingili Resort, which is seen as a pivotal aspect of the region’s efforts to revitalise tourism.
