Minister Ihusan refrained from providing specific details about the confiscated drugs, opting instead to highlight their estimated street value, which he disclosed to be MVR 21.6 million.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to combating drug-related issues, Minister Ihusan stated that the administration, led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is steadfast in its pursuit of a drug-free Maldives.

In addition to the recent seizure, Maldives Customs Service also reported intercepting 3.3 kilograms of narcotics last month, which were being smuggled into the country via courier.

The illicit substances were uncovered during an inspection of two parcels that arrived in the Maldives via courier, prompted by suspicion.

Following preliminary testing, the substances were identified as synthetic cathinone, a category of controlled substances commonly associated with illegal drug trafficking. Further investigations into the matter are underway.
