MNDF Coast Guard Issues Cautionary Advisory for Eid Holiday Travelers
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has issued a cautionary advisory ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays, aimed at travellers planning journeys across the nation’s islands for celebrations.
During Eid festivities, a significant number of individuals traditionally undertake trips to different Maldivian islands. In light of this, the Coast Guard is stressing the importance of vigilance and careful planning for those embarking on such journeys.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Naeem, Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Ship Ghazee, underscored the necessity of checking weather conditions before setting sail. He emphasised the collaborative efforts between the Maldives Police Service (MPS), MNDF, and the public in ensuring travellers’ safety, citing the challenges involved in responding to accidents resulting from spontaneous travel plans. Additionally, he highlighted the crucial need to ensure the safety and functionality of vehicles and communication equipment before departure.
Captain Sergeant First Class Ibrahim Didi echoed these sentiments, noting that many accidents occur due to vessels lacking sufficient resources to handle emergencies. He urged adherence to regulations to mitigate risks during travel.
The Coast Guard conducts various initiatives annually to inspect sea vessels. This year, these inspections will continue alongside the distribution of safety guidelines and precautions by the Coast Guard to enhance awareness and safety among travellers.
