PG Office Flagged 415 Drug Offences Cases for Prosecution in the First Quarter

The Prosecutor General’s Office has released statistics for the first quarter of 2024, revealing persistently high levels of drug-related offenses, with a total of 415 cases earmarked for duty prosecution from January to April, comprising 98, 116, 116, and 85 instances, respectively.
In contrast, there were fluctuations in other categories of offences. Child sexual abuse cases saw a slight increase from 22 in January and 23 in February to 25 in April, while theft offences decreased from 40 in January to 25 in April.
Assault offences also displayed variability, with a peak of 33 cases in March, compared to 29 in January and 21 in April. Offences related to alcohol similarly fluctuated, with 15 cases in January, 8 in March, and 9 in April.
Instances of domestic violence rose slightly from 2 cases in January to 7 in April, while non-domestic assault cases remained relatively steady.
Child abuse cases, excluding sexual abuse, saw a slight increase from 1 in January and 2 in February to 3 in April. Sexual harassment cases remained low throughout the period, with 2 reported in both January and April.
These statistics offer valuable insights into the prevalence of various criminal offences during the first quarter of 2024, providing law enforcement agencies and policymakers with essential data to address emerging challenges effectively.
