The proposal, introduced by the leader of the ruling PNC parliamentary group, Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah, received support from Vilimale’ MP Mohamed Ismail.

No alternative candidates were put forward for consideration during the session. Consequently, a vote was held on Shujau’s nomination, which garnered significant backing from 88 attending MPs and secured his appointment as the parliament’s representative to the Clemency Board.

The Clemency Board comprises 11 members, including a designated representative from the parliament. During the 19th parliamentary assembly, then-Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau held the position.

Shujau, who previously represented the Baarah constituency from 2014 to 2019, was elected to his current position in the 2021 parliamentary elections after a successful campaign. He has also assumed the role of the senior deputy parliamentary group leader for the PNC.

During Monday’s session, in addition to Shujau’s appointment, Parliament also voted to nominate Maafushi MP Hussain Riza Adam as its representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
