Gov’t Conducts Draw for Land Exchanges to Gulhifalhu
Yesterday, the government conducted a draw among over 2,000 individuals who requested to exchange land allocated to them in Giraavarufalhu for plots in Gulhifalhu.
A total of 2,210 exchange requests were received, and the draw was completed in a single day. According to current plans, 193 land plots measuring 1,250 square feet, 663 plots measuring 1,650 square feet, 487 plots measuring 2,050 square feet, and four plots measuring 2,450 square feet will be transferred to Gulhifalhu.
There was no draw for those who requested to exchange their 2,050-square-foot and 2,450-square-foot plots, as the number of available plots in Gulhifalhu exceeded the number of applicants.
The decision to transfer 1,347 land plots from Giraavarufalhu to Gulhifalhu was made in April, following revisions to the Giraavarufalhu land use plan, which reduced the available land plots on the island.
The next step involves allocating the land in Gulhifalhu to those who participated in the swap, followed by land registrations and agreement amendments.
The Gulhifalhu reclamation project was awarded to the Netherlands-based Boskalis company on 17 October 2019, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. The project, valued at MVR 2 billion, aims to reclaim 65 hectares of land.
