Naifaru Hosts Climate Change Symposium for World Environment Day

Atoll Marine Center by Naifaru Juvenile organised a climate change symposium last week to mark World Environment Day. The symposium included a series of awareness sessions directed at members of the Lhaviyani Atoll Community.
The two-day symposium, which was held in Lhaviyani Naifaru on Wednesday and Thursday, invited speakers from various institutions, such as the Maldives National University (MNU), the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Save Maldives Campaign.

The speakers shared information about the impact of climate change, potential adaptation measures, water and sanitation, protected areas, biodiversity protection, the impact of reclamation and the importance of seagrass ecosystems.
The Symposium was organised by Naifaru Juvenile in collaboration with Naifaru Council with funding from the Asia Foundation.
Naifaru is home to the only EPA-approved turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre located on an inhabited island in the Maldives.
