During the official unveiling of the scheme, Dr. Aishath Rameela, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, emphasised the significance of empowering farmers with financial resources to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and enhance economic contributions.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries including farmers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), civil society organisations, and cooperative societies in 26 islands covered by the Maldives Agri Business Programme will have access to grants. These grants can be utilised for acquiring climate-smart technologies, setting up greenhouses, and establishing efficient fertilisation systems.

The inaugural phase of “Dhanduveri Manfaa” will allocate MVR 100 million towards supporting private individuals, NGOs, and cooperative societies in implementing modern agricultural facilities such as greenhouses and hydroponic systems.

To qualify for funding, applicants must have a minimum of one year’s experience in agriculture without prior government grants. Preference will be given to members of the Island Farmer Forum, underscoring the scheme’s commitment to equitable distribution and sectoral growth.
