MACL Plans Night-time Seaplane Services Expansion
The Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef, announced plans to extend the nation’s seaplane services to include night-time operations. This expansion aims to enhance the tourism industry and aviation sector in the Maldives.
Speaking at a panel discussion on leisure destinations at the Air Service World Congress held at Kurumba Resort on Wednesday, Shareef highlighted the Maldives as the ideal location for the introduction and development of modern seaplane technology. The Maldives currently hosts the world’s largest seaplane hub and is the leading provider of seaplane services globally.

Shareef stated that the proposed extension of seaplane services will be facilitated by the installation of lights on the water runway, allowing for operations beyond the current schedule, which runs from morning until sunset.
“This change will bring further growth to the tourism industry and a major structural boost to the aviation sector in the Maldives,” said Shareef during the panel discussion.
The Air Service World Congress, now in its seventh year, serves as a platform to strengthen industry relationships and connect air transport businesses.
