Immigration Deports Over 2,000 Expatriates for Legal Violations
Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamaan announced that over 2,000 expatriates have been deported from the Maldives for various legal violations since November of last year.
Shamaan detailed that a total of 2,013 expatriates were found to be in violation of the law while residing in the Maldives. Among those deported were foreigners accused of serious crimes across various islands in the country.
The Maldivian authorities are currently working to halt illegal business operations conducted by foreigners. This activity, although prohibited by law, has been occurring on a significant scale.

Special operations targeting these illegal businesses have led to the apprehension of over 120 foreigners, who are now in Immigration custody. “They have been taken into Immigration’s custody and we are now processing their deportation. They are being sent with the condition that they will not be allowed to return,” Shamaan stated.
These raids have affected multiple local markets, with numerous expatriates detained from various locations. Additionally, small retail shops, takeaway coffee stores, and massage spas, allegedly used as fronts for prostitution, have also been targeted.
Immigration authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal activities conducted by foreigners and have emphasised that their efforts and raids will continue.
