Male’ City Council and NDMA Launch ‘Making Cities Resilient 2030’ Initiative
The Male’ City Council, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), launched the “Making Cities Resilient (MCR) 2030” initiative this morning.
This programme is designed to assess potential disaster damage and develop a roadmap for disaster preparedness.
Unveiled at a ceremony today, MCR 2030 aims to address urban challenges related to disaster response, with the goal of improving preparedness and creating a safer urban environment. The initiative, led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), will develop a 10-year resilience roadmap. This roadmap will guide cities and municipalities in raising awareness, strategic planning, and implementing resilience measures.
As part of the initiative, a framework and plan will be developed to assess and enhance the city’s resources for disaster management. The NDMA stated that this will be a key component in building resilience against potential disasters.
During the launch, NDMA CEO Hisan Hassan emphasised the city’s commitment to preparing for future challenges and safeguarding society. Mayor Adam Azim highlighted the initiative as a testament to the city’s dedication to building a disaster-resistant community.
The campaign will also feature a workshop for Male’ City Council employees and stakeholders, running from today until Tuesday. This workshop aims to provide essential training and strategic insights to better equip the city’s workforce in disaster preparedness and response.
The MCR 2030 initiative marks a significant step towards a resilient and safer Male’ City, aligning with global efforts to mitigate the impacts of disasters on urban areas.
