Speaking at the ceremony, Fahmy emphasised STELCO’s long-standing cooperation with the NDMA and other state authorities during national emergencies. “We have always worked closely with NDMA during crises. However, until now, we lacked a formal protocol for national crisis management within the company. While we do have internal procedures for handling various situations, we recognised the need to coordinate efforts at a national level. After thorough discussions with the NDMA, we are pleased to formalise this agreement today,” Fahmy said.

NDMA Chief Executive Hisaan highlighted the importance of the private sector’s involvement in crisis response, as outlined in the Disaster Management Act. “In recent years, we have encountered several challenges in working with private companies during emergencies. With this MoU, we hope to overcome those hurdles and undertake significant work together in the future,” he said.

Under the agreement, plans are in place to enhance STELCO employees’ skills, ensuring that they can work seamlessly with NDMA and maintain the company’s essential services, even during crises.
