The statement was made during a special interview with SanguTV, where he addressed accusations from the opposition of misusing public funds for personal purposes.

In the interview, Muizzu explained that, according to regulations, he is legally permitted to utilise funds allocated to Muliaage, the official presidential residence, for foreign trips. However, he emphasised that he has not taken advantage of this allowance for personal travel since taking office.

“I have always used my own funds for personal trips and accommodation, whether it was for me, my wife, or my children,” he said.

Muizzu and his family initially resided in his personal home in Male’ City, M. Dhimyath, until renovations at Muliaage were completed. He assured that during this time, all expenses were covered from his own finances.

“I have never used state funds for my personal expenses and continue to rely on my own money as much as possible,” he added.

The current administration has implemented a policy of publicly disclosing the expenses incurred for all official foreign trips made by the President and Vice President.

This measure was introduced to ensure transparency in the government’s spending. Expense details for all of Muizzu’s official trips have been made publicly available.
