Adam Naseer Ibrahim, former Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, resigned from his newly appointed position at the President’s Office today, just hours after he was appointed for the role.

Earlier in the day, Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef, announced that Adam Naseer had begun serving as Special Advisor to the President on Dhivehi Language and Nationality.

However, in a post shared later on X, he said Adam Naseer had tendered his resignation from the position. Upon inquiry from MV+, the spokesperson said he did not know the reason for Adam Naseer’s resignation.

Adam Naseer was a member of President Mohamed Muizzu’s original 22-member cabinet following the 2023 presidential election. He served as Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage until 14 April, when he and nine other cabinet ministers resigned, after which the president restructured some government ministries, abolishing some whilst merging others.

The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, which Adam Naseer headed, was subsequently dissolved.

Neither Adam Naseer nor the President’s Office has publicly commented on the reason for his abrupt resignation.
