Bangladesh High Commission Celebrates Independence and National Day in Maldives

The Bangladesh High Commission to the Maldives hosted a reception at the JEN Hotel in Male, Maldives, last Thursday to commemorate Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day.
The event welcomed esteemed Maldivian dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, and various guests. His Excellency Ali Ihusaan, the Minister of Homeland Security and Information Technology, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Guests in attendance included high-ranking officials from the host country, diplomats, business representatives, members of the media, Bangladeshi healthcare professionals, and members of the Bangladeshi community residing in Maldives.
During the reception, Bangladesh High Commissioner Rear Admiral Abul Kalam Azad delivered remarks, paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for his instrumental role in Bangladesh’s liberation and nation-building efforts. He also honoured the sacrifices made by national leaders, martyrs, and freedom fighters during the liberation war.
The High Commissioner expressed gratitude to the nations and individuals who supported Bangladesh during its struggle for independence. He also highlighted Bangladesh’s progress under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and transition into a developed nation by 2041.
Rear Admiral Abul Kalam Azad commended the Maldives for its achievements in various sectors, including development, diplomacy, sports, and regional peace and stability. He also thanked the President and Government of the Maldives for their continued support of Bangladeshi expatriates in the country.
The Chief Guest, H.E. Ali Ihusaan, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, emphasised Bangladesh and Maldives’ strong fraternal relations, friendship, and mutual interests. He acknowledged the contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates to the development of Maldives, particularly highlighting the cooperation between the Bangladesh government and expatriates in various sectors.
The event showcased Bangladesh’s rich history, independence, determination, development, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. Guests were treated to traditional Bangladeshi cuisine alongside a diverse range of other culinary delights.
