The government has announced that the redevelopment of the stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will commence during Ramadan.
According to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the ring road encircling Malé, is being redeveloped in phases with asphalt surfacing. The upcoming phase will cover the segment between the Presidential Jetty and the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. MTCC indicated that, if progress continues as planned, the entire road is expected to be completed by the end of April or May.
The Minister of Housing, Dr Abdulla Muthalib, stated that the redevelopment of the heavily congested Local Market and North Harbour area is intended to ease cargo movement and improve traffic flow. He noted that the project also includes the installation of a smart stormwater drainage system.
According to the minister, while the installation process will require time, it will ultimately enhance both water management and sanitation infrastructure in the area. He added that the redevelopment is aimed at maximising convenience for those who rely on services in the district.
MTCC commenced work on expanding and redeveloping Boduthakurufaanu Magu to accommodate four lanes on 22 August 2025.
