The Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has ordered the closure of a house in Hithadhoo, Addu City, for 90 days after determining that it was being used to facilitate drug consumption.

According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the order took effect on 1 July and was issued under Section 156-2 of the Drugs Act (Act No. 17/2011). Police said it is the second court order issued under the provision to shut down premises used for drug-related activities.

The property, known as Milocity, was ordered closed after the court found that it was being used to provide drug consumption services and to supply drugs, as well as equipment used to consume them.

The court order stated that drug use at the premises had disrupted public safety and posed a danger to individuals in the surrounding area.

It further noted allegations of large-scale drug trafficking at the property, as well as the commission of other criminal offences, including gang violence, kidnapping and theft, both at the house and in its vicinity.

Police did not provide further details on whether any arrests were made in connection with the case.
