Customs Confiscates MVR 1.6 Million Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes

The Maldives Customs Service has seized smuggled cigarettes valued at MVR 1.6 million during inspections in Male’ and Hulhumale’.

As part of an ongoing investigation into alleged contraband smuggling, customs officials inspected a location in Hulhumale’ last Monday and four additional sites in Male’ and Hulhumale’ last Wednesday.

During these operations, customs officers confiscated 173 cartons containing a total of 1,731,597 cigarettes. The market value of the seized cigarettes is estimated at MVR 1.6 million. Additionally, the duty on the confiscated cartons is valued at MVR 5.6 million.

The Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) provided support during these operations. The Maldives Customs Service has expressed gratitude to both law enforcement agencies for their assistance.
