Customs Seize 3.3 kg of Drugs

Maldives Customs Service (MCS) officials announced on Monday the interception of 3.3 kg of illicit drugs being smuggled into the country via courier services.

According to a press release issued by the MCS, two suspicious packages underwent screening procedures, revealing the presence of synthetic cathinone following tests conducted by the agency. The first package was found to contain 3.1kg of the illicit substance, while the second contained 210g.

Synthetic cathinones, commonly known as “bath salts,” belong to a class of artificially produced stimulants intended to replicate the effects of conventional stimulants such as methamphetamine and MDMA.

Subsequently, the intercepted drugs have been transferred to the Maldives police for further investigation, as confirmed by MCS.
