In a session with a parliamentary committee on national development and heritage, Yoosuf Abdul Ghafoor, the head of DNR, confirmed that the department had proposed the changes for cabinet approval.

The parliamentary committee, upon the request of Galolhu Uthuru MP Eva Abdulla, summoned representatives from both the DNR and the Immigration department today to discuss the validity period for ID cards and passports.

Presently, individuals aged between 10 and 40 are issued ID cards with a five-year validity period, while those above 40 receive cards valid for ten years.
