The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced that Eid al-Adha prayers in Malé City will take place in congregation at 24 mosques and four designated outdoor locations.
The outdoor venues include Maafannu Stadium area, Villimalé Football Stadium, Hulhumalé Stadium, and the Hulhumalé Cricket Stadium area. These sites have been prepared to accommodate large congregations for the special Eid prayer.
In the event of adverse weather, Eid prayers will be moved to all mosques in the Malé area that regularly host Friday prayers. The ministry also confirmed that all prayer venues, whether indoor or outdoor, will include designated spaces for women.
This year, Eid prayers across the Maldives will begin at 7:00 am, a change from the previous starting time of 7:30 am.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has called on the public to ensure that Eid al-Adha celebrations are conducted in accordance with Islamic principles. It stated that while the Maldivian people have traditionally marked Eid with great enthusiasm, all festivities should remain within the boundaries of Islamic teachings.
The ministry highlighted President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to preserving Islamic values while promoting inclusive and joyful celebrations for people of all ages. The government encouraged the organisation of Eid activities on all islands, provided they align with Islamic guidelines.
Additionally, the ministry urged relevant government institutions to monitor Eid celebrations nationwide to ensure they comply with established religious and cultural standards.
Eid al-Adha will be observed on Friday this year, with celebrations extending over a four-day period.
