These specially designed machines and equipment are crucial for managing waste in accordance with the standards outlined in the Greater Male’ Waste Collection Strategy, which was developed with the guidance of external experts.
Unlike the previous waste transfer stations, the new facilities in Male’ and Villimale’ are designed to transport compacted or compressed waste in containers. Along with the machinery, brand new containers, arm roll truck vehicles for lifting the containers, and special roll packers to reduce the volume of waste have also been imported for use at the transfer stations.
This new approach will eliminate the need for vehicles to board the garbage barge for waste disposal, except for heavy and bulky waste. Instead, waste will be drained from waste vehicles through a special “way bridge” and discharged onto the container below through the waste tipping platform on the first floor of the transfer station. All vehicles will discharge waste into standard containers, which have also been procured for segregated waste disposal.
The new waste transfer stations in Male’ and Villimale’ will be located at the current WAMCO sites. These centers are designed to accommodate various types of garbage trucks, pickups, and dump trucks, allowing for seamless waste management operations.
Furthermore, the equipment will enhance WAMCO’s waste disposal and waste management activities in the area, as well as facilitate waste separation in compliance with the 5th Amendment to the Waste Management Regulations. The company has already commenced waste disposal from all households in the area as of June.
