Fayyaz Ismail, current Minister of Economic Development and Chairperson of the ruling party, has made it clear that he has no desire to serve as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s running mate for the upcoming elections, according to a recent tweet.

Fayyaz accused Moosa Manik, the former chairman of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and a key figure in President Solih’s presidential campaign, of spreading false information about his candidacy.
Expressing his disappointment, Fayyaz labelled the situation as, “very sad.”
The specific reasons behind Fayyaz’s accusation against Moosa Manik remain unclear at this time.
President Solih, on the other hand, has yet to finalize his selection for a running mate, emphasising the challenging nature of this decision. He revealed that the MDP, Adaalath Party, and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) have initiated collaborative efforts for the upcoming presidential election, with the potential of nominating a running mate from the coalition.
In the previous presidential election, President Solih emerged as the victor. However, the Jumhooree Party (JP) has chosen to independently contest the upcoming election without forming a coalition with President Solih. JP’s presidential ticket has been granted to their leader, Gasim Ibrahim.
