Fire Breaks Out in Empty Hulhumalé Apartment; Police Investigating Cause

A fire broke out in an empty apartment at the Apollo Crystal Building in Hulhumalé Phase 1 today, with police investigating the cause of the incident, the Maldives Police Service confirmed.
The Maldives Police Service said it received a report at approximately 1:57 p.m. today that smoke was rising from an apartment in a residential building in Hulhumale .

Police said that officers who attended the scene determined that the smoke was coming from an apartment on the eighth floor. With assistance from members of the public, police forced open the apartment door and extinguished the fire inside.
No one was inside the apartment at the time of the incident, police confirmed.
Authorities said the fire had started among pieces of wood kept on the apartment’s balcony.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
