First Lady Emphasises Food Safety as a Civil Responsibility

First Lady Sajida Mohamed emphasised food safety as a civic duty and called for collective efforts to safeguard it during her address at the 2024 World Food Safety Day reception.
During the event, the First Lady emphasised the key objectives of marking World Food Safety Day. These include raising awareness about food safety, promoting proper food handling practices, providing information about safe drinking water and food consumption guidelines, and encouraging the consumption of immune-boosting foods.
She further stated that food is vital for human survival and well-being, noting its importance for human development, mental acuity, and overall vitality.
This year’s World Food Safety Day is being observed under the theme “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected.” The First Lady noted that this year’s theme illustrates the connection between human well-being and safe food, emphasising that sustainable development and safe food are intertwined.
During the event, the First Lady highlighted the importance of implementing the Food Safety Act, which was recently ratified by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. In her speech, she underscored the steps that can be taken to ensure food safety and encouraged everyone to work together to achieve these goals.
