First Lady Sajidha Mohamed inaugurated the new Emergency Room (ER) and dialysis extension building at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital yesterday.
As part of the ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim laid the foundation stone for a new isolation facility at the hospital. The inauguration was attended by Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from the Ministry of Health, and the management and staff of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
According to the President’s Office, the development forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expand healthcare services across the atolls. The upgraded dialysis unit can now treat nine patients simultaneously, while the new Emergency Room adds six additional beds.
The planned isolation facility will include private rooms, a convertible quarantine area, and an auditorium with seating for 800 people. These upgrades are part of the hospital’s transition to a tertiary-level facility, enhancing medical services for the northern atolls.
