Flat Handover Still on Hold as Instructed by Ministry, Says FDC

The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced that the handover of flats developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme is currently on hold following instructions from the Housing Ministry.
In a statement issued today, the FDC addressed numerous inquiries concerning signing agreements and handing over the initial 4,000 units under the scheme.

The corporation clarified that decisions regarding the allocation and recipients of these units fall under the jurisdiction of the Housing Ministry, not the FDC.
The FDC emphasised that it must defer to the ministry on all matters related to the unit handover process. Consequently, the corporation has been directed by the Housing Ministry to halt all activities associated with this process until further notice.
The delay has intensified scrutiny on the government, which is already facing criticism over the postponed handover of land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme and flats under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme—both initiatives introduced by the previous administration.
This situation has led to ongoing protests in Male’, including a demonstration as recently as last Friday.
