The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has warned political opposition movements against politicising foreign investment, urging them to end campaigns targeting prospective investors and spreading misinformation.

In a statement expressing concern published on social media following reports from a local media outlet, Minister Saeed emphasised that political differences must not jeopardise international commercial opportunities that benefit Maldivian citizens.

He noted that misleading claims and the intimidation of prospective investors hand an unfair advantage to competitors in the global market, describing false reports as “music to the ears” of rival commercial destinations.

Highlighting the state’s broader economic posture, Minister Saeed stated that tourism remains the central pillar of the Maldivian economy despite changing global travel patterns. He stated that hostility, lies, and jealousy cannot serve as the foundation for a successful industry.

Addressing legal oversight, the Minister assured the public that Maldivian laws and the Constitution govern all commercial operations within the country, adding that authorities will permit no activities contrary to the legal framework. He urged those circulating contentious reports to review verified facts rather than foster hostility.
