Foreign Minister Departs for Official Visit to the United States

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer departed for the United States last night on an official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between the Maldives and the United States.

The Foreign Ministry announced that the trip will continue until Thursday. During this period, Minister Zameer is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other senior officials.

In Washington, Minister Zameer will engage with Samantha Power, Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Additionally, he will hold discussions with representatives from the Council on Foreign Relations and meet with members of the Maldivian community residing in the city.

Minister Zameer will also travel to New York, where he is set to meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and other senior UN officials.

Relations between the United States and the Maldives have strengthened under the administration of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Over the past seven months, senior U.S. officials, including Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma, have visited the Maldives to meet with government officials.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment to deepen diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two nations.
