The Government of the Maldives has issued a statement condemning the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas.

Haniyeh was killed in a pre-dawn strike in Tehran while he was visiting for the inauguration of Iranian President Masaoud Pezeshkian, which took place on Tuesday.

“The Government of Maldives calls on all nations to uphold international law and international humanitarian law and to work together towards finding an urgent and lasting solution to the Gaza crisis, ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today.

According to Aljazeera, Haniyeh’s bodyguard was also killed in the attack. The attack came just hours after Israel said it killed Hezbolla commander Fuad Shukr in a “precision strike” in Beirut.
