The Maldives Police Service has initiated an investigation into the threats against journalists and media outlets made anonymously by individuals concealing their identities. The police will utilise all available resources and capabilities to identify and apprehend those responsible for these threats.

On this occasion, we urge every Maldivian to promptly report any instances of acts of intimidation against the media or journalists should they witness them, to prioritise the national interest, and to promptly report such incidents to the police.

The Government’s longstanding policy remains to heed the voices of journalists, facilitate the media’s operation, and encourage responsible dissemination of news and information. The Administration remains committed to tirelessly safeguarding society’s peace and harmony by thwarting any threats against the press, media, and the nation’s integrity.
