Gov’t Directs Removal of Safaris from Hulhumale’

The government has issued a directive mandating the removal of safaris from the coastal vicinity of the reclaimed land of Hulhumale’ Phase III. 

The Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) announced this directive, citing significant damage to safaris caused by the entry of landing crafts into the dredging area, with several dangerous incidents reported.

HDC has set a deadline of 30 May for the removal of safaris. The directive follows the completion of the first phase of dredging 10 hectares of land in Hulhumale’ Phase III, with the second phase commencing on 30 December 2023. To date, five out of the planned 29 hectares have been reclaimed under this second phase. The third phase will involve dredging an additional 24 hectares of land.

Previously, HDC indicated that the reclaimed land would be designated for housing, industrial, and marina purposes. Additionally, there have been decisions to allocate specialised land plots for residents of Male’ City.
