Last Thursday, State Ministers Dr Abdulla Nazeer and Ahmed Shafeeu met with senior officials from the university to deliberate on the potential establishment. Dr Nazeer explained that the aim is to enhance Arabic studies in the Maldives by creating a dedicated campus. This would be a significant milestone, marking the first instance of a foreign university establishing a campus in the country.
He also noted that the presence of a foreign university campus could attract international students, fostering a multicultural educational environment. “This opens up a significant investment opportunity, bringing an international university campus to the Maldives,” he added.
The government aims to have five percent of higher education students in the Maldives be international students, with the influx of these students expected to positively impact the economy.
During the meeting, officials provided information on the registration process for the institute and obtaining accreditation from the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA). Additionally, the establishment of this campus is anticipated to strengthen bilateral ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
