Gov’t Launches Second Phase of Hoarafushi Road Development Project

Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has inaugurated the commencement of the second phase aimed at modernising the road infrastructure in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll. 

The initiative, entrusted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), comes at a cost of USD 2 million.

Deputy Managing Director of MTCC, Hassan Mughnee, shed light on the project, revealing that the upcoming phase will entail the application of asphalt over a stretch of 3km of roads. Additionally, the development includes the installation of drainage systems, street lighting, and pertinent traffic signage.

MTCC successfully concluded the first phase of the endeavour within the designated timeframe. This initial stage involved the surfacing of 5.3km of various roads across the island, with a budget totalling USD 4.6 million.

Hoarafushi, home to a population of 3,000 residents, ranks as the second most populous island within the atoll.
