Gov’t Opens Expression of Interest for Food Trucks in Hulhumale’

The Government has announced an opportunity for individuals and businesses interested in operating food trucks in Hulhumale’. 

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now being sought by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). According to HDC, the food trucks will operate on a fixed fee model. However, submissions proposing alternative models will also be considered. In cases where multiple applications are received, HDC will select the proposal that aligns best with its master plan for the area.

The food trucks will be allocated to 12 specific locations across Hulhumale’, including the ferry terminal, the STO Hotel area, Central Park, Fehires Park, Water Theme Park, the Football Stadium area, Fahiveni Community Centre, and the HDC Head Office. Additional locations include near Rehendhi School, Redbull Park, Ruhgan’du 1, and Ruhgan’du 2.

Operators must ensure their food trucks meet the design specifications outlined by HDC and comply with Health Protection Agency guidelines for food preparation. HDC has established a set of operational guidelines for the food trucks, with fines ranging from MVR 5,000 to MVR 50,000 for non-compliance.

Additionally, HDC is progressing with plans to set up kiosks in Hulhumale’ Phase 2.
