The government is gearing up to introduce a series of bills to the 20th parliament assembly in a bid to advance President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ambitious legislative agenda.

Heena Waleed, the Chief Spokesperson for the President, briefed the media today, outlining the administration’s preparations to present bills and amendments in line with Hafthaa 14 – the administration’s first 100-day commitments.

These legislative initiatives encompass areas such as housing, criminal justice, social welfare, and the overall governance of the nation.

Additionally, the administration plans to resubmit bills that have been stalled at various committee stages in the current parliamentary session, Heena said.

Among these are the Land Act, Real Estate Act, Business Act, Social Housing Act, Urban Development Act, SDF Act, alongside proposed amendments to the Copyrights Act and Preventive Healthcare Act.

Highlighting the scale of the task ahead, Heena noted that over 200 items of legislation are slated for submission.

The ruling Progressive National Congress coalition secured a super majority in the parliamentary elections held this month. The newly elected parliament members are set to take oath of office on May 28.
