Gov’t Publish Regulation on Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Assistance

The government has published a regulation on Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Assistance.

The regulation, posted on the government gazette yesterday, sets out minimum standards for delivering disaster relief and humanitarian assistance alongside guidelines for compensating damages incurred to household appliances.

Additionally, the mandate establishes a committee tasked with overseeing aid distribution during disasters.

According to the regulation, assistance will be made available following a declaration of a state of disaster by the national disaster management council. Eligibility for aid extends to individuals whose homes have been destroyed or made uninhabitable, those temporarily displaced, or those experiencing interruptions to basic human needs.

Furthermore, the regulation specifies that assistance may take the form of temporary housing or compensation for property and appliance damages. However, it also allows for the provision of aid beyond these parameters by City Councils, Island Councils, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, or any other pertinent authority.
