Gov’t Signs with CMEC for Hulhumale’ Phase III Infrastructure Development

The government has finalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to embark on infrastructure development within Hulhumale’ Phase III.

The MOU, as reported by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), is set to usher in a new era of infrastructure in Hulhumale’ marked by cutting-edge advancements. Key aspects encompassed in the MOU include the establishment of a new power grid, deployment of a GPON network (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), and the enhancement of the road network to incorporate features such as fire safety provisions, water facilities, and sewerage systems.

Although specifics regarding the financial scope of the project have not been disclosed by the authorities, the collaboration is poised to bring significant enhancements to the infrastructure landscape of Hulhumale’.

Established in 1978, CMEC stands as China’s pioneering engineering and trade enterprise. With a notable track record in the Maldives, the corporation has previously undertaken substantial construction endeavours, including the construction of housing units in Hulhumale’ under the social housing initiative of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, as well as the development of Vinares housing units within Hulhumale’ Phase II.
