Gov’t to Allocate ‘Special Incentives for News Media from the State Budget’

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlights the Maldives journalism sector’s main hurdle as sustainable income, proposing a dedicated state budget incentive backed by a supportive Parliament.

He delivered these remarks during his speech commemorating World Press Freedom Day.

During his address, the President extended his warm regards and commendations to journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, recognising their invaluable contributions and dedication.

President Dr Muizzu emphasised journalists’ vital role in the progress and prosperity of a nation. He highlighted their responsibility to report daily events, raise awareness in society, bridge the gap between Government and citizens, and voice the people’s concerns to the authorities. The President further affirmed the Administration’s commitment to addressing journalists’ needs and aspirations and realising them.

He encouraged the dissemination of accurate information, urging the public to remain cautious, carefully and thoroughly consider all news, and to always seek out the truth.

President Dr Muizzu concluded his speech by encouraging journalists to uphold their national responsibilities with integrity. He called upon the Government, journalists, service providers, and all citizens to unite and work together towards the common goal of advancing the nation, improving conditions, and achieving the aspirations of the people.
