Gov’t to Hold Draw for Giraavaru to Gulhifalhu Plot Transfers
The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced that a draw will be held on Tuesday for recipients of land plots under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme who applied to switch their plots from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhifalhu.
The current administration opened applications for the switch on 7th April, citing a lack of space in Giraavaru Falhu. The Ministry initially announced that 1,347 plots would be available in Gulhifalhu, including 193 plots of 1,250 square feet, 663 plots of 1,650 square feet, 487 plots of 2,050 square feet, and four plots of 2,450 square feet.
Applications closed on 18th April, with 1,193 applications received. There was high demand for plots measuring 1,250 square feet and 1,650 square feet. To address the lower demand for the larger plots, the Ministry opened an additional application period on 5th May.
Following this extension, the total number of applications rose to 2,210. Due to the excess number of applications for the smaller plots, a draw will be held to allocate these plots fairly.
The draw will take place at Dharubaaruge’s Rannabandeyri Maalan on Tuesday at 12:00 pm. Recipients who wish to personally place their names in the ballot boxes can do so between 9:00 am and 10:00 am at the same location.
The Ministry has also advised recipients who are unable to attend the draw to appoint a proxy and provide their details through the ‘Hiyaavehi’ portal.
