Gov’t to Initiate Housing Scheme Targeting Resort Workers
President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu announced yesterday plans to introduce a new housing scheme aimed at providing opportunities, particularly for employees within the resort sector.
The announcement came during a special programme designed to facilitate direct interaction between the President and citizens, where Thoha Hussain, a tourism worker from Nargis/R.Meedhoo, raised concerns about the delay in fulfilling promises outlined in the government’s manifesto regarding housing for tourism employees.
In response to Hussain’s inquiry, Muizzu affirmed that the Cabinet had endorsed a proposal to integrate a dedicated housing scheme for individuals working within the tourism industry into existing social housing initiatives.
Muizzu outlined key elements of the Cabinet’s decision, including the collaborative determination of eligibility criteria in consultation with various tourism associations and the allocation of housing units across different regions of the country, not solely confined to the capital area.
He underscored ongoing efforts to address housing challenges faced by individuals within the tourism sector, affirming the government’s proactive stance in this regard.
