The government is working to revise eligibility criteria under the disability category of its housing scheme, according to the Minister of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib.
In a statement, Muththalib said amendments are currently underway to the “Persons with Disabilities Category” under the Family Housing Program. The proposed changes would allow either persons with disabilities or their legal guardians to apply for housing under the scheme.
The ministry has already opened applications for individual flats, with the revised regulations expected to formalize provisions for guardian-assisted applications.

The update comes as part of the broader Housing for All scheme, which was launched on 16 November last year.
Under the scheme, a total of 15,000 plots and 7,900 flats have been made available in Rasmale’. The allocations cover multiple categories, including residents of Malé, atoll residents currently living in the capital, and special category applicants.
Applications for flats under the programme remain open until Friday this week, the ministry said, while the application deadline for land plots have passed in March.
